Climate Week NYC 2027: dates, events and where to stay

Climate Week NYC 2027 runs from Sunday, September 19 to Sunday, September 26. The organizers time it to run alongside the UN General Assembly, so the people they want in the room only have to travel to New York once. That's also what makes hotels tricky: you're booking in the week world leaders, delegations and their security teams usually arrive in Manhattan.

Most of the events themselves are free. What you do need is a room near the subway, booked early.

Climate Week NYC 2027 at a glance

Which events you can get into

Most Climate Week NYC events are free, though some charge an entry fee. Companies, nonprofits, schools and community groups each host their own, so check each listing for how to register once the calendar is out.

The flagship sessions work differently. The Opening Ceremony is invite-only but streams online for everyone. The Hub Live, two days of plenaries, roundtables and side events in one venue, became a ticketed event for the first time in 2026, at a little over $1,000 per person (per climateweeknyc.org). The UN General Assembly overlap

UN Headquarters is on First Avenue in Midtown East, and the General Assembly usually closes streets around it. During the 2018 General Assembly, for example, the NYPD closed First Avenue from 42nd to 48th Street, plus several cross streets, and strongly encouraged everyone to use public transit (NYPD street closure notice).

When to book your hotel

Don't wait for the events calendar. The dates are already set, and the calendar won't be out until early summer. Book a refundable rate as soon as you know you're going, then switch neighborhoods once you can see where your events are. Before you pay, check the cancellation deadline.

Where to stay for Climate Week NYC

The organizers' own advice is to stay in Midtown or Downtown Manhattan, close to a train or bus. Events are spread across all five boroughs, so being near a station with several lines matters more than being near any one venue. Distances below are straight-line from each hotel's coordinates, and station names come from the MTA's subway data.

Midtown East, near the UN and Grand Central

This is the UN side of town, and it's where the General Assembly closures hit hardest.

You can't get much closer to the UN than Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza at 1 United Nations Plaza, about a tenth of a mile from UN Headquarters. Rooms look out over the East River or the skyline.

If you'd like breakfast included and a short walk to the trains, Hampton Inn Manhattan Grand Central at 231 East 43rd Street is 0.2 miles from Grand Central-42 St station (4, 5, 6 and 7 trains) and 0.24 miles from UN Headquarters.

A block away at 221 East 44th Street, EVEN Hotel New York Midtown East gives every room its own workout zone and has a 24-hour gym. It's 0.28 miles from UN Headquarters.

Flatiron and Union Square

This is the most flexible base in the city, with direct trains both uptown and downtown.

Our favorite for meeting people is Freehand New York at 23 Lexington Avenue. Its rooftop bar, Broken Shaker, works well for an informal catch-up, and 23 St-Baruch College station (6 train) is 0.12 miles away.

Moxy NYC Chelsea at 105 West 28th Street is next to the 28 St stations for the 1 and the N, Q, R and W trains, and it serves a continental breakfast every morning.

Union Square station is the big draw here: the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R and W trains all stop there. W New York - Union Square at 201 Park Avenue South is 0.11 miles away.

Around the corner at 134 Fourth Avenue, Hyatt Union Square New York is even closer to the same station, and it has a 24-hour gym for the 6 a.m. workout.

Downtown and the Financial District

Downtown is a good base if you'll be heading over to Brooklyn, and the Fulton St station complex puts eight subway lines within a few blocks.

The five-star pick is The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel at 123 Nassau Street, built around a nine-story atrium under a glass pyramid roof. Fulton St station, with the 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, J and Z trains, is under 0.1 miles away.

Near the South Street Seaport, Gild Hall, A Thompson Hotel at 15 Gold Street has a wine lounge, La Soffitta, for a quiet drink after a long day, and it's 0.11 miles from Fulton St.

For a simpler three-star stay, Fairfield Inn New York Manhattan/Financial District at 161 Front Street is 0.19 miles from Wall St station on the 2 and 3, and a short walk from the Brooklyn Bridge.

Near Penn Station and Herald Square

If you're arriving by Amtrak or commuter rail, Moxy NYC Times Square at 485 7th Avenue is 0.17 miles from 34 St-Penn Station, and its rooftop bar on the 18th floor looks straight at the Empire State Building.
