Things to do in SoHo

Look up when you're shopping here: the cast-iron buildings above the storefronts are the reason the neighborhood is a landmark.

5 places to start in SoHo

Judd Foundation

Donald Judd lived and worked in the five-story cast-iron building at 101 Spring Street, and it's kept as he left it. Visits are by guided tour, so book ahead.

The New York Earth Room

Walter De Maria filled a second-floor loft on Wooster Street with 280,000 pounds of soil in 1977, and it's still there. It's free and takes 10 minutes.

Housing Works Bookstore

Every used book on the two floors was donated, volunteers run the cafe, and the money goes to a nonprofit fighting homelessness and AIDS. You'll find it on Crosby Street.

Dominique Ansel Bakery

The Cronut was invented at this Spring Street bakery in 2013. The flavor changes every month, and it still sells out early.
