Hotels with EV charging in New York City

Every hotel on this list operates in New York City, offers EV charging either on-property or at a verified third-party garage within walking distance, and holds a confirmed sustainability credential backed by third-party certification or published measurable metrics. Generic brand pledges and unverified claims did not qualify any property for inclusion.

How we selected these hotels

Each property on this page had to clear two bars: confirmed EV charging access and a verified sustainability credential. For EV charging, we accepted on-property stations and third-party garages within a 5-minute walk of the hotel entrance, provided the garage is a named, operating facility. For sustainability, we checked the US Green Building Council's LEED database, the Green Key global registry, the Energy Star certified buildings list, and brand-level sustainability reports that named this specific property with numeric results. A corporate mission statement or a brand-wide pledge with no property-level data did not qualify any hotel. Hotels are ranked Tier 1 first, then Tier 2, with tiebreakers applied in the order described in the ranking criteria.

Before you book: EV charging tips for NYC hotel stays

  • Call the hotel directly to confirm charger availability and connector type (Level 2 J1772 vs. DC fast charge) before arrival — hotel websites do not always reflect current charger status.
  • If charging is at a third-party garage, ask the hotel concierge to reserve a charging bay in advance, especially on weekends when garage capacity fills quickly.
  • New York City's Department of Transportation publishes a public EV charging map at nyc.gov — cross-reference it with your hotel's address to find backup options within a few blocks.
  • Tier 1 certifications such as LEED and Energy Star are publicly searchable databases. You can verify any hotel's certification status yourself before booking.

What verified sustainability credentials actually mean for your stay

A Tier 1 certification means an independent auditor reviewed the building's energy consumption, water use, waste diversion, and indoor air quality against a published standard. LEED Gold, for example, requires a property to score at least 60 out of 110 possible points across those categories. Energy Star certification requires a building to score in the top 25 percent of similar buildings nationwide for energy efficiency, based on actual utility data submitted to the EPA. These are not self-reported claims. Tier 2 properties have published specific numbers in sustainability reports, such as a 20 percent reduction in water use since a named baseline year, but have not gone through independent third-party auditing. Both tiers represent a meaningful step above hotels that list sustainability as a brand value without any supporting data. For hotels that hold a third-party operational credential, see our Green Key certified New York hotels.

Frequently asked questions

Do all five hotels have EV chargers on the hotel property itself?

Two of the five hotels, 1 Hotel Central Park and New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, have confirmed on-property EV charging. The other three direct guests to named third-party garages within a 2 to 4 minute walk of the hotel entrance. Each hotel entry on this page specifies the exact garage name and walking distance.

What connector types do these hotels or nearby garages support?

Most on-property and garage chargers in New York City operate as Level 2 stations using the J1772 connector, which works with all non-Tesla EVs and with Tesla vehicles using an adapter. DC fast chargers are less common at hotel-adjacent garages. Call the specific garage or hotel parking desk before arrival to confirm connector type and charger availability.

How can I verify a hotel's LEED or Energy Star certification myself?

The US Green Building Council publishes a searchable database of all LEED-certified projects at usgbc.org/projects. The EPA publishes its Energy Star certified buildings list at energystar.gov/buildings. Both databases are free to search by building name or address, and you can confirm certification level and date without relying on the hotel's own marketing.

What is the difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2 on this list?

Tier 1 hotels hold a certification from an independent body such as LEED, Green Key, or Energy Star. Those certifications require audited data reviewed by a third party. Tier 2 hotels have published sustainability reports with specific numeric results, such as a documented percentage reduction in energy or water use, but have not gone through independent third-party auditing. Both tiers require verifiable evidence. Vague brand commitments without numbers did not qualify any hotel for either tier.

Are there other NYC hotels with sustainability credentials that did not make this list?

Yes. This list covers five properties that met both the EV charging and verified sustainability criteria. Other NYC hotels hold sustainability credentials but lack confirmed EV charging access within walking distance, or hold only brand-level pledges without property-specific data. We have a separate page for eco-friendly luxury hotels in New York City that covers properties without the EV charging requirement.

Does a hotel's sustainability certification affect the quality of the guest experience?

Certifications like LEED and Energy Star measure building performance, not service quality. A LEED Gold hotel uses less energy and water than a comparable uncertified building, but that does not predict room quality, staff responsiveness, or food quality. Use the certification data alongside star ratings and charging details to get a complete picture before booking.
