Haight-Ashbury has just two hotels that made this list, and both score 8.6 or higher with guests. The Stanyan Park Hotel is a 1-minute walk from Golden Gate Park's Stanyan Street entrance, and The Metro Hotel is on Divisadero Street at the neighborhood's eastern edge.

How we selected these Haight-Ashbury hotels

Every hotel on this list had to meet two criteria: a confirmed address within Haight-Ashbury and a guest rating above 8.0. Hotels in adjacent neighborhoods, including Cole Valley, the Castro, and the Inner Sunset, were excluded regardless of quality. Only two hotels met both, which is a fair picture of the neighborhood's hotel supply.

Haight-Ashbury was never a hotel district. People come for the Victorian houses, the independent shops and Golden Gate Park. Both properties are mid-range 3-star hotels with guest ratings above 8.5.

Haight Street between Stanyan and Divisadero is the neighborhood's commercial spine. You get independent record shops, vintage clothing stores, and a concentration of cafes and bars that have operated in the same storefronts for decades. The eastern end of the street meets the Panhandle, a narrow strip of Golden Gate Park that connects to the park's main body at Stanyan Street.

The park's museums, the de Young and the California Academy of Sciences, are a walk through the park from the Stanyan Park Hotel. For hotels in other San Francisco neighborhoods, we have separate pages covering the Financial District and Union Square areas.
